So, once again National Poetry Month has crept up on me so its time to add to my poetry pool. I think I’ve gathered enough material to seriously consider a second book, but my novel aspirations are still winning the “What to Publish” dilemma I’m always faced with.
These two poems are very different in topic but share a central theme, conflict. And really, aren’t most works ‘that’ much more interesting when highlighting a continuing struggle or problem. In any case, enjoy each one and I hope to add on a few more poems before the month closes.

I’m amazed at how we go First speaking with gentle tongues The anger and hurt we hold Strains hard on those relations Seeking changes in the way Knowing full well what you mean How you tire of the wait When you turned the home we shared Over time we both have changed Memories have stayed intact You still see the world through eyes Lashing out at everything Here we stand at this crossroads You approach with angst and dread What you seek can’t be with me If only you understood You are part of all I want Shared bed, shared car, shared mortgage But I fear this ride has charged Now I fear we’ve lost the strength Maybe time is what we need Maybe the ride’s truly done |
Where We Go
When all the dust has settled To find how we’ve all reached here Many lives throughout the past The future will see the same We are judged by what is seen An image forged through stories My race denotes a status Yet racism’s billed as dead And the truth is also that Help spur this image’s reach Before attacking a group Take note of the ills we cause The changes must come from self Of approaching a true end In order for ‘us’ to win No battle’s ever been won Where we go as time moves on Will we meet tomorrow’s world |
